BHB: ‘Industrial Action, Delays In Housekeeping’
[Updated] There is “industrial action” which is “resulting in less than the full complement of staff performing their duties,” the Bermuda Hospitals Board has confirmed, adding that “there may be delays in housekeeping services today.”
A BHB spokesperson said, “There may be delays in housekeeping services today as irregular industrial action is resulting in less than the full complement of staff performing their duties.
“Management has not received any notice of action and efforts are currently underway to assess the extent of interruption.”
We will update with further details as able.
Update 7.57pm: A BHB spokesperson said, “Bermuda Hospitals Board confirms that there were delays in housekeeping services today as some staff engaged in industrial action. All evening shift staff have reported for duty and the department has returned to normal function.
“Bermuda Industrial Union President Chris Furbert met with the workers who downed tools. BHB had no notice of the industrial action. The action involved housekeeping and some Dietary Services staff. Clinical care of patients was not affected.”
Did the BHB hire a Canadian CEO recently?
fire em all plenty young folk wanna work
More muscle flexing by the BIU (with a little knuckle touch from the PLP). Those Belco byes has a nice little break and a party. You should get yours too!
Wow. Bda sinking even faster than many thought after the last election.
Let me guess. Someone rearranged the chairs in the staff kitchen without telling anyone?
I don’t wanna go work either–I am taking industrial action–
“irregular industrial action”? So this ain’t no regular action? Can we get Ottiwell’s thoughts about irregularities of the action type things?
It’s time that more employees at BHB start standing up for their rights. This organization has had problems with bullying for decades and the current administration is just as dismissive about claims of bullying and harassment as their predecessors were. The victims are more likely to be the ones to get fired than the bullies are, and I think this is what is causing them to remain quiet.
I’m just hoping that this latest incident is not swept under the carpet as some, if not most, cases like this have been in the past. If guilty, the supervisor or manager responsible for the bullying, should be relieved of their duties immediately. And when I say relieved, I mean FIRED! Believe it or not, just a short while ago, BHB adopted anti-bullying policies and all of their staff were required to undergo bullying awareness training.
In my opinion, the Unions are as much to blame for this, because they haven’t treated cases like this with the seriousness that it deserves. In my view, the Unions have been enablers of this kind of behavior over the decades.
It must come to and end!
Yes i agree the unions are bullys
