This is a death trap, so many accidents yet govt has done nothing to address.
Second…roadside sobriety checks did not prevent this nor the St George’s death.
So is it standard now to arrest every driver who causes an accident on suspicion of impaired driving if there are serious injuries to the other person? Seems like every accident involving a car/truck hitting a motorbike the driver is arrested.
Any incident involving a drunk driver is no accident. It was a totally preventable crash waiting to happen.
If the cops arrive on scene to a driver smelling of alcohol or otherwise impaired what do you want to do, let him go on his merry way?
No, that only happens when you hit a utility pole in Spanish Point.
Well , if I was driving a car with a blue light on the roof and a siren in it and caused the accident then I’d want the other party to split as soon as possible as well .
In fairness I think both drivers should be tested as a matter of routine when there is a serious accident.
I think it should be standard for ALL people involved in these collisions to be tested for alcohol. Not necessarily arrested if they agree to a roadside test. If they pass then fine, if they don’t .. then arrest them.
But all too often we hear that the uninjured person gets arrested and tested but the victim does not get tested. It could be the victim who was drinking and not the uninjured person.
My comment does NOT refer to this particular incident. I don’t know anything about this incident other than what is written in the article.
That roundabout needs center lines that guide…also needs lighting up…the center lines can be had by reducing the center garden. One more thing…the growth in that garden is at a height that blocks view of traffic.
