Court: Girl Tells Murder Trial She ‘Froze In Shock’

November 15, 2018

A 16-year-old girl has claimed she ’froze in shock’ after she saw four people running after Lyrico Steede on the night he was fatally wounded in England, according to the latest report from the Nottingham Post.

She is one of five teenagers charged in connection with the murder of the 17-year-old Bermudian, who died after suffering multiple stab wounds.

The report said, “A 16-year-old girl ‘froze in shock’ after she saw four people running after teenager Lyrico Steede in a dark playground, a murder trial has heard. Lyrico, 17, was chased over several hundred yards from a park in a recreation ground off Hempshill Lane in Bulwell, then stabbed. He died five days later.

“During her third day on the witness stand, the girl – who denies Lyrico’s murder with four others – was asked by prosecutor Peter Joyce QC whether she thought about helping him at the time.

“She told him: ‘I did think of it, but I froze in shock.’Mr Joyce said: “But we have seen on the CCTV, you weren’t frozen, you followed them out”.

“She said: ‘Seconds later, yes.’ He asked her what she had done to help a “boy you liked who was running for his life?” She replied: “Nothing.” And then Mr Joyce queried “why not?” and she told him “I don’t know”. He said: “Unless you were in on it?” She replied: “No.”

“The girl had arranged to meet Lyrico at Bulwell Bus Station. She said they had a rough plan of what they were going to do “but we wasn’t so sure”, she told her barrister, John Butterfield QC.

“We arranged to smoke some cannabis and just speak and get to know one another more,” she had said. The prosecution claims she lured him to the park.

“Mr Joyce asked her on Wednesday, November 14: “Is your case unexpectedly you have taken Rico to that dark little playground, and unexpectedly four men came to exactly where you were sitting in the dark and came bursting in to attack Rico?” She told him: “Yes.”

Two 17-year-olds males and a 16-year-old girl are accused of the murder with 19-year-old Kasharn Campbell and 18-year-old Remmell Campbell-Miller. The trial continues in the Nottingham Crown Court in the UK.
