Deloitte Team Members Take Part In Impact Day
Deloitte recently held its annual Impact Day, with 93 of its team members taking part in the volunteer event.
A spokesperson said, “At Deloitte, we are led by a purpose – to make an impact that matters for our clients, for our people, and for society. This purpose defines who we are and is an integral part in how we do business. Impact Day is Deloitte’s annual celebration of our commitment to community involvement in Bermuda.
The Adult Education School:
“Deloitte Ltd. completed this year’s annual Impact Day on Friday, November 16. It is the second year spending an entire workday teaming up and volunteering within the Bermuda community. All of our staff members set aside their work for the day to contribute towards this initiative.
“A total of 93 Deloitte team members took part this year at four locations across the island, each aligning to Deloitte’s Corporate Responsibility Pillars: Youth; Seniors; Education and the Environment.”
The Bermuda National Trust:
The locations included The Bermuda National Trust, The Adult Education School, Habitat for Humanity and the Eliza DoLittle Society. Volunteers at the Bermuda National Trust met at Scaur Lodge Nature Reserve in Sandys, and helped by removing invasive plant species and clearing out the walking paths.
Lawrence Doughty, Conservation Officer at the Bermuda National Trust, said, “Everybody was amazing at getting stuck in and clearing a beautiful trail down to the waterfront, as well as removed several invasive trees and plants that were encroaching on endemics [cedars, olivewoods and palmettoes].
“To wrap up the day, everyone cleared the area of litter, starting from the Nature Reserve and leading all the way down to the public dock at Ely’s Harbour. It was a very productive and enjoyable day. We eagerly look forward to next year’s Impact Day event.”
Eliza DoLittle Society:
The spokesperson said, “At The Adult Education School, Deloitte team members took part in various projects that included upgrading the student lounge to create a free library space, and building inspirational bulletin boards for the students. The group also worked in the computer room, organizing and assembling new computer monitors for students and conducted inventory checks of books and supplies – among other projects.
Habitat for Humanity Bermuda
“One of the larger Deloitte groups worked with Sheelagh Cooper, CEO/ Managing Director at Habitat for Humanity to remove branches, rocks and dead foliage at the old Pembroke Rest Home.
“As this was and still is a very large project, once the outside space was cleared, team members swept and scrubbed the floors throughout building. Other projects included cleaning the large kitchen and scraping paint off the back patio.”
Ms. Cooper said, “Habitat is hugely grateful to the employees of Deloitte who volunteered their time to assist with the repairs and clean up to the Pembroke Habitat site. It was amazing to watch as they took command of the site; clearing brush during the morning and then in the afternoon moving inside the building and transforming many of the rooms and turning a disused kitchen into a sight to behold.”
“The Eliza DoLittle Foundation, which provides assistance to its clients across the island through their Food Bank, was the third location our team members volunteered at”, the spokesperson said. “The projects included cleaning the interior and organizing and sorting through donated food items in the pantry, as well as helping to pack food bags for clients as they arrived.”

However, contrary to what the name may suggest, Impact Day is not just one day, and activities surrounding it take different forms and occur at various times throughout the year in Bermuda and around the world.
“Impact Day continues to be one of Deloitte Bermuda’s highlights, where for one full working day all staff dedicate their time and resources to a common local cause or various projects around the community.”
