Shoebox Drop Off Deadline On December 12
The public is being reminded that the deadline for drop off for the Salvation Army shoebox initiative is December 12.
A spokesperson said, “Social media group ‘Art on the Town Bermuda’ is joining forces with the Salvation Army this year to deliver much-needed items to Bermuda’s homeless population.
“Major Dena Hepditch from the Salvation Army offices in Hamilton said there were about 100 people in Bermuda living rough. However, this number is growing.
“Shoeboxes with items including [but not limited to] toothbrush and paste, deodorant, soap, washcloth, scarf or warm hat, snack, comb, disposable razors, can be dropped off at the Salvation Army offices on North Street by December 12.
“Major Hepditch said the boxes would be distributed at a special Christmas luncheon for the homeless, and others in need, by December 25th.
“Should more than 100 boxes be donated, the remainder will be distributed amongst the elderly [who also attend a Salvation Army Christmas lunch] as well as those who live at the emergency housing owned and operated by the Salvation Army.”
