February 5, 2019

Voters will be heading to the polls for the municipal election in St. George’s today, set to elect a new Councillor for the east end, and Mark Soares is one of the two candidates running.

Mr Soares, who runs Bermuda Yacht Services, said he has set his roots down in St. Georges, and he would like to help “guide the town to a prosperous future for the sake of the residents and business owners.”

He has lived and worked in St. George’s Parish for 13 years, operated his business within the municipal boundaries of the town for over 10 years, and has been active in the town in various ways including as Chairman of the East End Division of the Chamber of Commerce, and serving as  one of the co-founders and organizers of the St. George’s Marine Expo.

“I am proud to say that my hard work has resulted in a consistent increase in the number of visiting yachts to our harbour,” he said. “Working in partnership with the Corporation of St George’s, and with very little investment we were able to secure St Georges to be the host for many of the vessels during the Superyacht Regatta, of the America’s Cup.”

“There is still a lot of work to be done. I believe that the town of St. George’s is in a period of rebirth,” Mr Soares said.

“I would like to volunteer my time to the Corporation of St. George and be a part of some of the decisions that will guide the town to a prosperous future for the sake of the residents and business owners.”

“It is unfortunate that I am running for this position under these circumstances. I send my condolences to the Anderson family. I worked extensively with Phillip Anderson to make improvements to the town docks. We were friends and he always was a great supporter of mine regarding the development of the yachting product in the town for St. George. I will continue his work in this area.”

“I have set my roots down in St. Georges, I know that it’s the best part of Bermuda, and my heart is here in the town,” he added.

“I will ask the residents of the municipality to vote for me in the upcoming special election and that I will represent them to the best of my abilities.”
