Bermuda Wins ITF World Team Junior Opener
The Bermuda team of Antonio Warner, Bobby Bart and Mackai Whitter recently began competing in the ITF World Team Junior Tennis Competition in Santo Domingo, winning their first match.
The Bermuda’s Under 14 Boys team is ranked seventh and is in Group A alongside first-seeded Honduras, Suriname and Aruba.
In their opening match, Bermuda defeated Aruba 2 – 1.
Aruba took a 1-0 lead when Higo Fidler defeated Bart in straight sets 6-1, 6-4 in a battle that took one hour and forty minutes.
Whitter drew Bermuda level at 1-1 when he came from a set down to defeat Gijs Fidler in one hour and twenty minutes, 2-6, 6-4, 7-5.
It eventually came down to the doubles, with the Bermuda pair of Warner and Whitter defeating the Fidlers in straight sets 7-5, 6-1 in a one hour and thirteen minute match.
