MS Awareness Week Kicks Off With Swimathon
On Saturday [March 2], for the second year running, the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Bermuda held a Swimathon event at The Aquatics and Fitness Centre of the Bermuda National Sports Centre.
A spokesperson said, “Swimmers included individuals with Multiple Sclerosis [MS] and others who gave their time and energy to complete a number of laps in an effort to raise much needed funds for the Society’s members.
“Funds raised at the Swimathon and at other events throughout the year, go directly towards providing financial relief to members of the Society with MS for their medical costs, e.g. copays, purchasing wheelchairs, canes, etc. and in some cases, even much needed air-conditioning repairs, as heat and humidity are not friends of many people with MS.”
President of the Society, Ellen Hollis said, “On behalf of all of our members I thank everyone who pledged their support, participated by swimming, or came along as the all-important cheerleaders on Saturday. We are extremely grateful to how the local community continue to support us and we look forward to sharing more information regarding other fun events we have planned for 2019.”
“Another event is planned for this Wednesday at the upper level of the Bermuda National Library from 12pm until 2pm. to help raise further awareness regarding this very challenging chronic disease which manifests itself differently in terms of symptoms and how it progresses in each individual.
“Two videos will be shown exploring what MS is, with the second video including a series of interviews with MS sufferers, followed by a Q&A session. The event is free and open to the general public. All are welcome.”
