100WF Gala To Support Duke Of Edinburgh

June 19, 2019

100 Women in Finance [100WF], a global network of professionals in the finance industry, has selected The Duke of Edinburgh Bermuda as the beneficiary for its 2019 gala event, with its Bermuda Summer Sunset at Sandymount, Bailey’s Bay set to be held on June 22.

A spokesperson said, “The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Bermuda is a fun-filled and flexible programme for young people between the ages of 14 to 25. The programme fosters personal growth and delivers on teaching motivation, commitment, leadership, team-work, self-discovery, and achievement of one’s full potential through participation in challenging and non-competitive activities of community service, personal skills, physical recreation and adventurous journeys.

“Introduced to Bermuda by the Chamber of Commerce in 1967, The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award was offered initially to the Boy Scouts, rangers and youth ministries, with His Excellency The Governor serving as its inaugural Patron. Today, Bermuda has one of the highest DofE participation rates per capita anywhere in the world, with approximately 10,000 locals that have participated in The Award since its introduction to the island.

“Additionally, Bermuda is 1 of only 12 countries worldwide to currently serve on the International Award Council with HRH Prince Edward, The Earl of Wessex

“The popularity of the Award in Bermuda is testament to the universal appeal of the programme, whose core values lie in the development of confident, motivated, committed, disciplined & skilled young people who are able to make informed, critical decisions & exercise their rights as citizens by contributing positively to society.”

Alison Morrison, 100WF Bermuda Chair, said, “We are delighted to be hosting our third 100 Women in Finance Gala and are pleased to welcome our global CEO, Amanda Pullinger, to this year’s Event. The Bermuda membership continues to grow and with over 300 members now we are delighted to have such strong support within the financial services sector.”

Gillian Kersse, 100WF Bermuda Philanthropy Chair, said, “We are so grateful for the support of our Platinum sponsor Walkers, Gold sponsor Butterfield and other event sponsors KPMG, MUFG, Zurich Re and IFP.”

“100WF’s global philanthropy theme for 2019 is Education, focusing on the areas of science, technology, engineering and math. Net proceeds from Bermuda Summer Sunset will support the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award [DofE] in Bermuda, allowing female students from local schools to set sail on a five-day skills voyage aboard the Spirit of Bermuda, as well as for male and female public-school students to participate in ConnecTech robotics and coding classes.

Chair of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Jovanna Douglas said, “On behalf of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, Bermuda, I would like to thank the 100 Women in Finance for their support. Participation in the Award helps to develop future leaders and empowers young people to determine their own definition of success.”

“Celebrations begin at 6:30pm featuring local drinks, cuisine, and dancing. Details can be found online and tickets are still available should you wish to join us at this wonderful event.

“Members of Bermuda’s finance and alternative investments industries interested in joining 100WF can learn more about the organisation and the networking and education events that are planned throughout 2019 here or by contacting Bermuda@100women.org.”
