Happy Valley PTA Condemn School Bus Arson
Happy Valley Child Care Parents Teachers Association [HVCCPTA] has condemned as “unacceptable and irresponsible” the act of arson over the holiday weekend which resulted in a total loss of the school minibus, with PTA President Mrs. Camille Edness saying this act is “totally unacceptable, reckless and irresponsible”.
A spokesperson said, “Happy Valley Child Care Parents Teachers Association [HVCCPTA] has today condemned as “unacceptable and irresponsible” the act of arson over the holiday weekend which resulted in a total loss of the school minibus.”
PTA President Mrs. Camille Edness said this act is “Totally unacceptable, reckless and irresponsible. It saddens me to know, that there are people in our community who don’t value the education and well being of our children. To purposely damage school property is deplorable and shameful.”
“Happy Valley Child Care Centre [HCCCC] offers full-time cost effective child care for children ages three months to four years. The children represent a cross section of the community with 60% of the intake being classed as “at risk” or coming from referrals by Department of Child and Family Services, Child Development Program, Teen Services and the Health Department.
“The bus, which is a little over a year old, is primarily used to transport children to educational programs such as Aquamania, gymnastics and kinetix. These activities are scheduled weekly, with children experiencing multiple events throughout the week. With the bus now damaged, these plans have been thrown in to disarray.
Mrs. Edness said, “The school is due to have a fund raising event today [Thursday] and now we are scrambling to make alternative transportation plans. Not to mention the swim lessons taking place this month and the start of summer program for the preschool class. We are thankful Aquamania volunteered to temporarily assist with transporting the 26 children to their swim lessons yesterday.”
HVCCC coordinator Andalyn Swan said, “The minibus is an essential component of the program that we offer here. It allows us to transport children to various educational opportunities and opens them up to new experiences. It will be a struggle to make things work without the minibus.”
Mrs. Edness made this plea, “This past weekend, we celebrated Bermuda Heroes. If anyone knows something, be a Happy Valley hero and say something, by contacting the Bermuda Police Service, or the confidential and anonymous Crimestoppers Hotline or website with any information. Our teachers, parents, and most of all children, deserve better. The person who did this must be caught before it’s another bus for our seniors or someone’s house or property.”

@$$#0£€$
Ridiculous!
In a perfect world the perp would be caught, fined & ordered to pay for a new bus. In the real world if caught the perp will get a small fine & get sent west & cost the taxpayer about the amount for a new bus.
If you need me to drive any kids to any of the programs in the next few weeks, let me know on here. I only have a small car, but can make lots of trips!
How can I help donate towards the cost of a new one? I cannot believe that someone would do such a thing.
This is just sad. Where can I make a donation?
This is so sad! Truly horrible for bermuda. Where can I make a donation??????
Some angry person or mischievous person has now slowed down the learning experience of the children , and this is really, really awful to do to vunerable persons who have no defence and are at the very beginning of their lives being given foundation. Hopefully , government can look within it’s funds and assist the school.
Really Stupid n demented individual. Must have gripe with Government. Or Somebody child needs a whooping.
