Car Crash On South Road In Warwick

[Updated] Following a car crash on South Road in Warwick, BELCO personnel are on scene to repair a pole and traffic diversions are in effect in the area.

A police spokesperson said, “Around 3:45am Friday, July 26th a reported single vehicle crash occurred on South Road in Warwick, in the vicinity of Southlands, involving a car and a utility pole.

“Early information suggests that the driver was not seriously injured and was the vehicle’s only occupant. BELCO personnel are on scene to repair the downed utility pole and traffic diversions are in effect in the area until further notice.

“The repair work is expected to take several hours and motorists are advised to take alternate routes if possible.

“Any witnesses are asked to call the main police telephone number 295-0011.”

Update 10.50am: A police spokesperson said, “Traffic flow along South Road in Warwick near Southlands started returning to normal around 8am. However, it is understood that BELCO personnel continue work to replace the damaged utility pole and motorists traveling through that area are advised to use caution in the meantime.”

Update 4.20pm: A police spokesperson said, “It now appears that around 3:30am Friday, July 26th a reported single vehicle crash occurred on South Road in Warwick, in the vicinity of Southlands, involving a car and a utility pole.

“The original statement regarding this incident indicated that the crash occurred around 3:45am.

“Apparently the car involved was being driven in the eastbound lane of South Road when it struck the utility pole, near the junction with Dunscombe Road.

“The driver, said to be a 30-year-old Pembroke man, sustained lacerations to his ear. He was transported to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via private vehicle, treated and later discharged.

“BELCO personnel attended the scene to repair the downed utility pole and traffic diversions were in effect while the work was carried out.

“Any witnesses are asked to call the main police telephone number 295-0011.
