Two More Medals Won At NatWest Island Games

Bermuda picked up two more medals on day two of the NatWest International Island Games taking place in Gibraltar.

Bowling once again took center stage as the team of Damien Matthews and David Maycock won the bronze medal during the men’s doubles missing out on the silver position by one pin.

The other medal came in the team tennis event as the Bermuda team fell in the semi-finals 3 – 0 to Menorca.

Athletics

Shianne Smith missed out on advancing to Women’s 100m final when she was fourth in heat one of the semi-final clocking 13.11.

Badminton

Bermuda won their opening badminton game of the day as they defeated Ynys Môn 4 – 1.

Bermuda would then defeat the Falkland Islands in the 13th/14th playoff game 3 – 2.

Beach Volleyball

Daniel Fiddick and Joshua Malpas went down to their opponents from Gotland 2 – 1. The Women’s pair of Allison Lacoursiere and Allison Settle defeated their opponents from Jersey 2 – 0 and then were defeated 2 – 0 in their game against Menorca. Megan Calhoun and Elisabeth Rae fell in straight games to their Cayman Islands opponents, and fell to their opponents from Jersey 2 – 1.

Sailing

After four races in the Laser Radial Rig Adriana Penruddocke is currently in 3rd place with 21 points after finishes of 3rd, 6th, 8th and 4th, while Jordan Etemadi is in 16th with 56 points.

Kalin Hillier is 6th in the Laser Standard Rig with 24 points. Hillier finished the first race in 13th before winning the next race. He then closed out with back to back 5th place finishes. Scott Mello is in 9th with 42 points.

Squash

In third round men’s singles action Anthony Fellows went down 3 – 0 to his opponent from Gibraltar. Stephen Smith won the all Bermuda battle defeating Greg Fitzgerald 3 – 0.

Fellows won his fourth round match 3 – 0 over his opponent from the Isle of Wight. Smith won his match 3 – 0 over his Shetland Islands opponent and Fitzgerald went down 3 – 2 to his opponent from the Falkland Islands.

In women’s third round action, Rachel Barnes went down 3 – 0 to her opponent from Guernsey. Judith Furtado fell 3 – 2 to her opponent from the Shetland Islands and Meagan Jackson defeated her opponent from Isle of Man 3 – 0.

Barnes went down in her fourth round match 3 – 2 to her opponent from the Shetland Islands. 

Ten Pin Bowling

The duo of Gloria Dill and Earlene Tucker finished 4th in the women’s doubles with a total pin count of 1746. Florence Simons and Jennifer Stovell finished 6th with 1629 pins.

The bronze medal came during the men’s doubles as Damien Matthews and David Maycock finished with 2144 total pins. Blake Raynor and Lamar Richardson finished 6th with 1922 pins.

Tennis

The Bermuda team advanced to the semi-final which guaranteed them at least a bronze medal. Bermuda fell 3 – 0 to Menorca.

In the round of 64 Singles Men’s Division, David Thomas defeated his opponent from Cayman Island in straight sets. James Finnigan defeated his Gotland opponent in straight sets while Gavin Manders received a bye.
