Video: Zane DeSilva Donates $50K To Footballers
Tourism Minister and Island Construction owner Zane DeSilva officially presented a cheque for $50,000 to the 2019 Bermuda Gold Cup football team today [July 10], saying the donation is to show appreciation to the team and also help them with their journey.
Minister DeSilva previously confirmed the donation was being made in his personal capacity, saying, “I think the guys have done really, really well. I personally appreciate the work the players and personnel have put in.”
Making their first ever debut in the Gold Cup, the Gombey Warriors scored a total of four goals against some of Concacaf’s most elite teams, who all represent nations with millions of people.
The team won their last game against Nicaragua 2-0, and made very strong showings against Haiti and Costa Rica, with Bermuda footballers claiming a Man of the Match award, a High Mileage Player of the Game award, and a Save of the Game award.
