Otis Redding III To Appear At Local Fundraiser
American singer Otis Redding III, who inherited his legendary father’s name and rich vocal delivery, will be headlining a fundraiser for Bermuda’s Family Centre next month.
The entertainer shot to fame in the chart-topping 1980s/1990s funk, soul and disco band The Reddings, but in recent years has introduced many of his father’s classic 1960s Memphis Soul songs such as [Sittin'] On The Dock of the Bay, Try A Little Tenderness and Respect into his act.
The senior Mr. Redding, who helped to pioneer Soul music by fusing R&B, gospel and blues into a new musical style, died in a 1967 aeroplane crash while touring Wisconsin.
Otis Redding III will be topping a bill featuring Bermuda entertainers Working Title, One SOULution, Mia Chambray and James Gregory, Chris Finsness, Spencer Wood and Rowdy Piper at the Family Centre’s September 14 Beach Bash.
Founded in 1990, the internationally accredited Family Centre provides early intervention services to children suffering from family based problems including abuse, neglect, and other emotional challenges. “Through our specialised programmes and prevention initiatives, we provide families with the skills they need to be successful and to sustain that success for future generations,” says the charity’s mission statement.
