December 11, 2019

A former police officer was sentenced to 2.5 years in prison after being convicted of planning to pervert the course of justice.

34-year-old Kyle Wheatley pleaded guilty to planning with others to pervert the course of justice by destroying traffic tickets issued to motorists that were alleged to have committed traffic offences.

The court heard that the offences happened between July 2017 and May 2018.

When handing down the sentence, Acting Puisne Judge Juan Wolffe said that an unequivocal message must be sent to would be offenders.

Speaking at a press conference earlier this week, Commissioner of Police Stephen Corbishley confirmed that he accepted Mr Wheatley’s resignation following his conviction.
