Weather Radar System Preventive Maintenance
The Bermuda Airport Authority is advising the public that its Doppler Weather Radar System will be out of service on Thursday, March 12th from 7 a.m. to approximately 8 p.m. to “allow for planned maintenance in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommended maintenance schedule.”
“The upgraded weather radar system was commissioned in July 2019. Early in its operations, there were several unplanned outages between July and November 2019, which have since been resolved,” a spokesperson said.
“The upgraded weather radar replaced the original system installed in 2004, with the new system installed at the Cooper’s Island site at a total cost of approximately $2 million. The weather radar system remains under the manufacturer’s warranty.”
Bermuda Airport Authority Chief Executive Officer Lester Nelson said, “I am pleased to report that since 22 November 2019, weather radar system availability has been 96%..”
