BIAS Joins ‘Stop Hate For Profit’ Movement
BIAS has joined the #StopHateforProfit movement, with the company “stopping all paid advertising on Facebook and Instagram throughout the months of July and August,” with the funds saved to be “given as tuition support to Chinzea Smith, a promising Bermudian studying Diagnostic Medical Sonography at AdventHealth University in Orlando, Florida.”
In an online post, BIAS said, “In light of recent events in the USA but also around the world, BIAS has decided to take a stand against hate and disinformation spread globally on social media.
“As such, we are stopping all paid advertising on Facebook and Instagram as of today and throughout the months of July and August, joining the movement #StopHateforProfit.
“By doing so, and in solidarity with big and smaller businesses around the world, we send a clear message to Facebook: ‘Profits will never be worth promoting hate, bigotry, racism, antisemitism and violence.’
“Amongst other things, the movement is also asking Facebook to ‘Find and remove public and private groups focused on white supremacy, militia, antisemitism, violent conspiracies, Holocaust denialism, vaccine misinformation, and climate denialism.’
“The advertising budget we originally allocated to Facebook for the months of July and August will be given as tuition support to Chinzea Smith, a promising Bermudian studying Diagnostic Medical Sonography at AdventHealth University in Orlando, Florida.
“Chinzea achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.9. She expects to graduate on April 2022 with the intent to return to Bermuda to serve her country.”
