Mary Prince Legacy Virtual Tour On July 28th

The Bermuda Chamber of Commerce is inviting people to join in a virtual Mary Prince Legacy Tour on Tuesday, July 28th.

A spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Chamber of Commerce invites members and non members to join the virtual Mary Prince Legacy Tour. The Tuesday, July 28th virtual event will be will be presented by Rashida Godwin of Titan Express and will share the Mary Prince story and her contributions toward Emancipation in Bermuda.

“In recognition of Bermuda’s Emancipation Holiday, the second day of Cup Match has been renamed to Mary Prince Day. Learn about the start of her life, her final years and significant residences and landmarks across the island, connected to Mary Prince. Explore the Emancipation Act along with how Emancipation contributes towards the annual Cup Match Cricket Game.

“The virtual tour allows you to gain knowledge on one of Bermuda’s most influential historical figures, who broke barriers for Bermudians.”

Kendaree Burgess said, “With the cancellation of this year’s Cup Match, due to the COVID‐19 pandemic, understanding why we celebrate the two day holiday is essential. Mary Prince was a pillar of strength in the fight for change. Even though we are unable to participate in sporting observance, we can still recognize the holiday by learning the history behind Cup Match.”
