Covid-19: 220 Test Results, One Was Positive
[Updated] Today there were 220 test results received and one was positive for Covid-19, with the new case “imported on the Delta flight from Atlanta on 7th July 2020.”
A Government spokesperson said, “Today there were 220 test results received by the Ministry of Health, and one was positive for Covid-19.
“The new case was imported on the Delta flight from Atlanta on 7th July 2020.
“Bermuda has 149 total confirmed positive cases. Their status is as follows:
- there are 3 active cases, who are
- all under active public health monitoring, and
- none is hospitalized or in critical care;
- a total of 137 have recovered, and
- the total deceased remains 9.
“The average age of all of our confirmed positive cases is 60 and the age range of all of our positive cases is from 18 to 101 years.
“The average age of all deceased cases is 74 and the age range is 57 to 91 years.
“The source of all local cases is as follows:
- 45 are Imported
- 85 are Local transmission, with known contact
- 16 are Local transmission with an unknown contact, and
- 3 are under investigation
“Bermuda’s country status is ‘Sporadic Cases’. The seven-day average of our real time reproduction number is below 1.”
The Minister of Health Kim Wilson said, “We have received a lot of questions about the quarantine requirements for travelers. The answers are all on our website under the “travel” section of the coronavirus.gov.bm website and we invite the public to visit the site for all their questions. We have also produced an infographic to explain the rules, which apply to everyone.
“In addition, we have been fielding many questions about the quarantine requirements for persons on the flights with positive cases. All passengers received email communication from the Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit explaining their next steps, which are to quarantine [as they were instructed at the airport] depending on their testing status, wear a mask and practice physical distancing, and monitor and report their symptoms as instructed.
“Any passengers needing to quarantine beyond the standard prescribed for them will be contacted by public health officials. For example, if they were a close contact of an individuals who tested positive on a flight. In that case, they will be informed of the particulars of their quarantine requirements.
“However, all arriving passengers must monitor their health for 14 days [if applicable for length of stay] and take their temperature twice daily and record their symptoms on a symptom log provided. Also, they should limit their exposure to others in the community, as much as practicable, for 14 days.”
Update 6.30pm: When asked if the people who tested positive [one on this flight, two on a prior flight] are using the bracelets, the Ministry replied, “Not yet as the focus has been on contacting them and clinical care, but bracelets will be fitted. We have done significant testing and continue to improve software supporting the monitoring bracelets.”
Update 7.34pm: We asked if the person who tested positive was a resident or visitor, and the Ministry replied that it was a visitor.

And here we go! Just stupid to open up so soon!
Especially to the states! We were Covid free right up to the first flight from Atlanta.
Seriously this Atlanta flight needs to be stopped.
Georgia is a hotbed of covid with rapidly rising numbers.
Why are we risking this?
The Minister states “they have received a lot of questions about the quarantine requirements”. Not surprising since the messages from the Ministry regarding the positives on the first Delta flight were confusing and contradictory. Those stated clearly all passengers had been quarantined. Apparently that is not the case. It can’t be that hard to be consistent and be clear and it would be to everyone’s advantage in these stressful times.
Remember, we’re talking about Wilson here. She hardly knows what planet we’re on. Giving us clarity on Covid quarantine requirements is way out of her league, She “doesn’t have that information to hand at the moment”.
I assume the Minister means the initial quarantine period between arrival and results of the first test In Bermuda have been received. A matter of hours rather than days.
Here we go again. It starts with imported cases, then it goes to known contact, then we have under investigation. The first cases we had were imported. This virus just didn’t pop up in our island. It was brought in. So it’s safe to say that every single case was a result of an imported case. This gov does not want to quarantine any tourist because once again they are putting profit over lives. So anyone can come in, run all over the place, until they get an email, by that time how many people are infected. All arriving passengers should be quarantined especially sine we all know there is an incubation period of up to 14 days.
Actually it is worse than this. If pre-tested passengers catch it in transit, there will be no email since both tests will be negative.
So, bracelets not available yet – software not available, “will be fitted”? Sounds behind the ball, not in front…
Where does one start? Looks like we will be back to Phase 2 at least within a week thanks to the inept Ministry of Health. So we had “aggressive testing” that turned out false, now “bracelets” that are not functional and each day will bring in more positives if the results so far continue. For how many tourists and how much tax revenue? The PLP/Government (seems to be the same) had better get this sorted soon or there will be trouble as no one is going to go back to lockdown because of reopening the airport without proper safeguards.
Bracelets?? Don’t need them. Testing?? Bah! Let’s just ask the tourists and returning residents to promise that they feel OK, and not stop at the Swizzle on the way in. Simple.
So someone with a pre-test catches it on the flight, tests negative and then is free to go. This will be much worse than the first wave, it seems negligent. I am very worried for those in my family with health problems, and I’m sure others are in the same boat. The curve if left in the wild is exponential, it is a nightmare. Hotels can easily end up like the diamond princess incident; they are not designed to be quarantine facilities.
It is absolutely ridiculous to allow flights to the United States, particularly Atlanta. During the timeline of the pandemic there has never a situation as numerous as the US now. This is worse than allowing flightd from Wuhan in January or Iran in February. Months of good and hard work from the public may go to waste with one false negative or bad test. UK and Canada seem to have the situation under control but we need to join most of the world including those two in keeping out US flights.
“This is worse than allowing flights from Wuhan in January or Iran in February.”
Good point .
one new case a day should lead to disaster
Can you lot imagine if someone at that Caines/DeSilva party had just hopped off that Delta flight the day before and then went to the party? That entire room of people including restaurant staff would have to be quarantined – including the two (now former) Government Ministers.
You lot really are asking for it. Wear a mask, wash your hands and social distance. It’s really pretty simple.
This is unacceptable. When one of us or one of our family members catches the virus and dies, they are just going to offer their sympathies at a press conference but in fact it will be blood on their hands for allowing people from the US into Bermuda putting us all at risk.
How do you plp supporters defend this smh this party has continued to dig us into a hole with no regard for public safety. Money is the only reason they allowed these flights to come in. The hotels need to close for the season it’s that simple. If they can’t afford to close for 1 season then they weren’t running the hotel right from the beginning and need to go anyway
This is all unbelievable. We open the airports and everyone complains that is to early and we’re bound to see an increase in cases(which we will for sure). But then people when two idiot ministers have to resign for not following guidelines that they enforced on us to prevent the spread of the virus, people are now complaining it is unfair on the ministers lol. Seems like some people here are too brainwashed by the political machine to think clearly. Just an observation
This has turned in to one again political bashing.
THIS TACTIC HAS GOT TO STOP . We are all entitled to better .
A percentage of Bermuda population don’t wear a mask and most likely have never worm a mask, if so do we go to their boss and arrange for them to be fired .
I don’t think so.
Every one regardless of station is entitled to due process.
What has happened here to our MP’s were subject to is the” lack of due process” a humiliating “pound of flesh ” traversity for any person no mater what station in life they are to endure.
Who wrote the book on that one?
Far to many decision are made here with out giving due cosiderarion for the consequences.
May I ask why the restaurant let them in the door in the first place ? and secondly why did the reataurant not provide masks after all the restaurant is the “keeper of the key”.
Was, or is, the restaurant to be held to account ?
The Virus C19 has caused much stress and anxiety on every one of course we have concern and so should we.
However ! Prudence good judgement shal prevail compashion and fair play is our greatest asset.
