US Consul General’s Cup Match Message

[U.S. Consul General Lee Rizzuto's Cup Match message]

As the world continues to face challenges following the outbreak of Covid-19, it is important to find moments of joy with loved ones and celebrate traditions that are meaningful to us.

This is my first Cup Match experience, and although the holiday will be celebrated much differently this year, I am enjoying my time learning about its historic significance and Bermuda’s vibrant rich culture. This year is especially significant as Bermuda marks its inaugural Mary Prince Day – honoring a National Hero whose legacy will continue to be remembered.

The excitement surrounding the historic and cultural aspects of Cup Match is prevalent as I continue to get acquainted with this beautiful country, visiting different venues and landmarks, while meeting with people across the island.

I’m so intrigued, that my recent visit to the NASA Bermuda Tracking Station inspired a vision of astronauts covering next year’s match from Space! – or at least introducing the rivalry between the East and the West to the United States via NASA satellite.

As we continue to make adjustments in our daily lives, I encourage everyone to remain safe and remember to follow protocols that are in place to protect us all. Hopefully, in 2021, I will be able to enjoy the full experience of Cup Match and will have made a firm decision on which colors to wear.

I wish all of Bermuda a joyous and safe holiday weekend.

” a small bit of fashion advice”

here’s another tip…never take advice from a Bermudian…they’re generally clueless about everything.
