BFRS Respond: Men Unconscious In Water Tank
Two men were cleaning a water tank at a Warwick residence and “using cleaning products whose fumes rendered them unconscious,” and the BRFS responded, with both men being “revived at the scene and transported to KEMH via ambulance.”
A BFRS spokesperson said, “At 6:52pm last evening the Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service received a call reporting two males unconscious in a water tank in Warwick. The men were cleaning the tank at a Warwick residence and using cleaning products whose fumes rendered them unconscious.
“BFRS responded with one appliance from Port Royal Fire Station and a crew of four firefighters. On arrival fire crews found the two males unconscious in the tank.
“The OIC of the appliance instructed two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus to descend into the tank to remove the two men on backboards and the cleaning product that was being used by the tank cleaners.
“Both men were revived at the scene and transported to KEMH via ambulance.”

Best wishes to the workers , and certainly a quick and professional service by the BFRS..hopefully a reminder can be put to the public on safety in this matter
To the powers that be: Please send a flyer out to the general public letting them know what not to do whilst cleaning a water tank. These guys where ever so lucky – God was on your side!
Hope they recover. Happened years and one sadly died. Health and safety is frequently ignored here.
