STEP To Host Corporation Legislation Webinar

STEP Bermuda, in association with the Bermuda Business Development Agency, will be hosting a free webinar entitled “Why the Time is Right for Bermuda to Adopt Benefit Corporation Legislation” on Friday, August 14 at 4.00pm.

A spokesperson said, “The COVID-19 pandemic is exacerbating disparities in health, wealth and well-being, calling on the for-profit and non-profit sectors alike to play their part in facilitating relief and recovery.

“The importance of a corporation’s sustainability, purpose-driven mission, and accountability to all of its stakeholders has never been greater.

“On August 14th, William H. Clark, Jr. of Faegre Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP and Gina Pereira of Dana Philanthropy will explore how benefit corporations and certified B Corps help to further public interests by following business practices that benefit not only their bottom line but support community and a more inclusive and sustainable economy.”

“William H. Clark, Jr. is Senior Counsel in the Philadelphia office of Faegre Drinker Biddle and Reath LLP where he practices law in the areas of corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, general business law, and government affairs.

“He is pro bono legislative counsel to B Lab and drafted the model legislation that has been the basis for the benefit corporation legislation that has been enacted in 36 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, and 4 other countries [Canada [province of British Columbia], Colombia, Ecuador, and Italy].

“He has published several law review articles, and has drafted numerous statutes in Pennsylvania as well as several model and uniform laws.
