706 Without Power: BELCO Working To Restore

September 16, 2020

[Updated] As of 4.00pm this afternoon [Sept 16], power has been restored to approximately 24,000 customers with work continuing to reconnect the remaining approximately 830 customers without power.

A spokesperson said, “BELCO crews continue to work to restore power across Bermuda following damage caused by Hurricane Paulette.

“As of 4:00 pm this afternoon, power has been restored to approximately 24,000 customers with work continuing to reconnect the remaining approximately 830 customers without power.

“BELCO crews will stand down at midnight tonight and begin work tomorrow, Thursday, September 17 at 8:00 am. With all main lines now restored, the focus is now on the smaller areas and single customer calls.

“If customers still do not have power, they should now call the BELCO outage line on 955. This will assist in providing more accurate information on areas that are still out and where AMI meters have not been installed.

“BELCO will be open tomorrow as normal at 8:30 am. The customer experience team will also be available to take payments over the phone on 299-2800 or assist via email at info@belco.bm.

“BELCO’s Crisis Management Team will continue to meet and coordinate restoration efforts until all power is restored.”

BELCO President Dennis Pimentel said: “I would like to commend our road crews and those working behind the scenes for their tireless effort to get our customers switched back on as quickly and safely as possible. It’s a team effort and they have done a fantastic job to help Bermuda recover so quickly after the damage caused by Hurricane Paulette.

“Thanks also to the Bermuda Regiment and other emergency services who helped clear roads, direct traffic and enable access for our crews to repair damaged infrastructure.

“We are also closely monitoring the approach of Hurricane Teddy and will be preparing ourselves for another storm as soon as the end of this week. Let me also thank the public for their patience and understanding as well as the appreciation our crews are receiving as they continue to restore power across the island.”
