Two Vehicle Collision In Devonshire
A two vehicle collision involving a motorcar and electric car took place in Devonshire this afternoon [Sept 17] with one person having to be extracted from a vehicle by the BFRS.
A police spokesperson said, “Please be advised there is a serious two vehicle, [motorcar and electric car] collision on Parson’s Lane in Devonshire.
“Female driver of electric car taken to hospital with serious arm injury. Female driver of motorcar was unhurt in the collision. The roadway is blocked off as the scene is processed by Traffic Collision Investigators and officers from the Forensic Support Unit.
“Traffic coming off of Barker’s Hill is being diverted along Vesey Street on to Middle Road. Traffic coming off of Middle Road on to Barker’s Hill is being diverted along Jubilee Road on to Orange Valley Road.”
A BFRS spokesperson said, “On Thursday September 17th 2020 at 2:13pm the Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service responded to a report of a two vehicle road traffic collision at the junction of Barkers Hill and Vesey Street, Devonshire.
“The fire service responded with three appliances from the Hamilton Station and a total of ten firefighters. On arrival fire crews saw a vehicle laying on the driver’s side with a lady trapped with her right arm pinned underneath the vehicle.
“Firefighters extricated the patient using high pressure lifting bags and the “Jaws of Life” cutting tools to remove the roof of the vehicle.
“The occupant of the vehicle sustained serious arm injury and was then transported to KEMH via ambulance.
“The cause of the incident is under investigation.”

TCD wake up! Chinese manufactured vehicles are not safe! They are cheap and mass-produced. No airbags, cut away zones, crumple zones, or even basic A/B/C pillars. These particular models are not meant for commuting any more than a golf cart is meant for towing a boat. Imagine if this car was full of kids in the back, it could’ve been much worse. Hopefully the driver recovers.
What information/data are you basing your assertion on? Clearly the roof of this EV was cut away by the Fire Service to gain access to the occupants. They would have done the same for an ICE vehicle if access to the occupants was restricted due to damage from a crash. Airbags only deploy when impacted in the area they are located. As reported in this case the car rolled on its side. Side airbags are not mandatory in any vehicles (ICE or EV) in Bermuda.

In the event of an accident where everyone involved is observing the speed limit you’re probably a lot safer in that thing than on a bike of any sort.
