Family Centre’s ‘This Old House Sale’ Today

October 3, 2020

Family Centre will be hosting their “This Old House” sale today [Saturday, October 3] at Horizon Club House in Paget from 10 am to 4 pm.

A spokesperson said, “Do you need a change of scenery? Family Centre invites you to plan a day out, and check out their “This Old House” Sale on Saturday, October 3 at Horizon Club House in Paget from 10 am to 4 pm. The pandemic has made many of us start to declutter our homes or look to sprucing it up a bit. Whatever home project you are planning, you are guaranteed to find a treasure or two that would add to the beauty of your home.

“Family Centre’s Special Events Committee, is a group of four dynamic ladies, who have volunteered to assist Family Centre to raise funds to support its therapeutic programmes and services that strengthen vulnerable children and families in Bermuda. They have been successful in delivering several events for Family Centre during the pandemic shelter-in-place period and this is their first non-virtual event for the year.”

Maribeth Anderson, a committee member explained, “Family Centre fundraising events are a critical component in supporting the delivery of therapeutic care to children and families in Bermuda. Our committee had mapped out most of the year with exciting and different events. Then the pandemic turned everything upside down!”

She added, “As a group, we refused to let our children and families down and are committed to deliver events safely and responsibly to ensure our children and families receive the care they need at Family Centre.”

Dr. Sandy De Silva, Executive Director of Family Centre stated, “We are very fortunate to have Maribeth Anderson, Megan Boyle, Samantha Sangster and Georgia Benevides who are strong advocates for children and families. The work they do is amazing and it’s all for the benefit of vulnerable children and families that require nurture and care.”

Dr. De Silva further explained, “There is no doubt charities have felt the impact of the pandemic on their events. The funds raised from these events significantly supplement an organizations’ programmes and services and Family Centre is no exception.”

According to Dr. De Silva, “This sale will need your support to make it a success for our children.”

She is excited about the event and will be there throughout the day and encourages you to take a break and pop in. “I will be on location throughout the day pitching in and hoping to find a few treasures myself,” said Dr. De Silva.

“This Old House Sale features unique and everyday items collected from people who have de-cluttered during lockdown, from others moving and leaving the Island, and many others who believe in the critical work Family Centre delivers to children and their families. ‘If you like to treasure hunt this would be the perfect opportunity,” said Megan Boyle a member of the special events committee.

“As an architect and designer, This Old House is a treasure chest of amazing possibilities and all for a great cause” stated Georgia Benevides. She added there is a wide variety of furniture and homegoods.

“Everything from Herend China, cedar pieces, framed artwork, rugs, day beds, occasional tables, chairs and an amazing dining set that is beautiful and ready for a new home.” There is a $1 and a $5 room and everything at the sale is priced to go.

“For those of us with a sweet tooth and need time to make a decision on an item there will be prepackaged baked goods available and bottled water sponsored by Barritts,” advised Sam Sangster, organizer of the bake sale.

She added “Family Centre is all about children and young people and it was perfect to have our bake sale items produced by aspiring young chefs and veterans.” She hints that $5 will secure you a water and a few sweet treats and guarantees a toothsome smile.
