Police Investigating Packages Found In Ocean
The police are investigating “several packages of suspected controlled drugs” that were found in the waters located off the South Shore in Southampton and Warwick.
A police spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Police Service [BPS], is investigating the discovery of several packages of suspected controlled drugs, found in waters near the Reefs Resort and Club, on South Road, Southampton.
“The first package was found by a visitor to the island while snorkelling just off the hotel beach, shortly before 1:00 p.m. on Monday, 12th October. Police were informed, officers attended and secured the item.
“A second package was later found at Marley Beach, Warwick around 4:00 p.m. on the same date by a member of the public, who handed in the item at a Police station.
“Police Officers, with the assistance of the Bermuda Coast Guard, subsequently conducted an extensive search of the area, resulting in a third package being located just off of Marley Beaches.
“As investigations into these finds continue, the BPS is appealing to any member of the public who may have witnessed any suspicious activity in the waters off the South Shore in recent days, to please call 211 or the main police number 295-0011.”
Things must be tight in the local fields.
Back to the sail-by.
I suspect that with recent bad weather and current flow that these packages came from the Caribbean area. There have been a number of drug packages being washed ashore along the Florida coastline and Islands in the Caribbean.
Does anyone really think that a drug smuggler would leave behind ‘drug packages’ it’s their source of income?
Sometimes bales of illegal contraband are thrown overboard by smugglers when they are identified or about to be apprehended. Not all are collected by the US Coast Guard and other Naval Ships.
and, well-known Drug and contraband Smugglers are always one FOOT ahead of law enforcement. They know when the vessels will be operating etc.
There is really no fight on the importation of illegal contraband in Bermuda. Law enforcement agencies don’t work together and the number one problem is there is NO FUNDING.
