Privacy Commissioner Highlights Cybersecurity

October 5, 2020

The Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Bermuda has established a dedicated web page that people can visit to learn about basic cybersecurity concepts and tips, with updates to be provided daily throughout October.

Privacy Commissioner Alexander White said, “You may know that October is generally called Cybersecurity Awareness Month.

“My office has established a dedicated page that Bermudians can visit to learn about basic cybersecurity concepts and for tips, and it will be updated daily here.”

The web page says, “Organisations around the world designate October as Cybersecurity Awareness Month to help people understand security issues in a real and practical way.

“Every day this month, PrivCom will update this page with more resources on cybersecurity and how it supports privacy. Check back here or on our social media pages each and every day of October!”

Mr White said, “Security is a critical component to protecting privacy. The Personal Information Protection Act [PIPA] instructs organisations to protect personal information with appropriate safeguards that may vary depending on what exactly the risk of harm may be.

“We are excited to join in with our cybersecurity colleagues to provide some plain-language tips that everyone can use to protect themselves, their businesses, and their family members.”
