‘Keep A Sheep’ Craft Sales To Benefit Museum
Starting Wednesday, November 25th, the National Museum of Bermuda [NMB] will be selling locally hand-crafted sheep ornaments and keychains online. All sales will benefit the Museum.
The ornaments and keychains are made by local artisan Lama Handmade Bda. Ornaments are available with black, grey, or brown felt for the sheep’s face, legs, and tail and will be sold for $20. Keychains are $15. Both the ornaments and keychains can be personalised with holiday ribbons and bells and/or name tags for an extra $5. To purchase, visit here.
Buyers also have the opportunity to add an additional donation to the Museum when making their purchase. As a non-government and non-profit organisation, NMB relies on admissions, venue hire and generous support of donations to fund its operations.
Katie Bennett, NMB Advancement Officer said: “By purchasing a keychain and/or ornament you are helping to fund our exhibitions, the conservation of artifacts, restoration of historic structures, publications, education programming, and archaeology.
“Donations also help us make admission free for all local students and schoolteachers and children under 16. These ornaments and keychains are perfect holiday gifts for loved ones [or yourself], and you’ll be supporting your National Museum, too.”
A spokesperson said, “NMB’s flock of resident sheep became ambassadors of the Museum on social media during Bermuda’s month-long lockdown in April, increasing the Museum’s social media reach by over 400% with their daily antics.
“The flock, who are on loan to the Museum thanks to local farmer Richard Bascome, are four-legged lawnmowers and fertilizers. They inspired a successful online appeal earlier this year, “Sheep-scape/Keepsake” in which donors were asked to help name the resident sheep. To view the named sheep, visit here.”
