Teen Haven provides comprehensive services for homeless teen mothers, young women and their children, including housing, counselling and life skills and parenting training.

The event was sponsored by The Argus Group – a donation that was further boosted by a cash contribution from the insurance company’s Donations Committee and staff, amounting to more than $10,000 in total spend.

Michelle Wade, the charity’s Executive Director, said, “This year, the Covid-19 pandemic severely impacted both the organisation and our clients. During ‘Shelter in Place’, the agency experienced an increase in food consumption, electricity, basic needs for clients and various other resources, causing an increase in operating expenses. Secondly, all of the residents lost their jobs and, as a result, had to totally depend on the agency’s support system, as well as other helping services in the community.

“Teen Haven is cognizant that Christmas is supposed to be joyous, family oriented, filled with love and memorable. However, it must be stated that, based on the Covid-19 experience, the organisation questioned whether or not they could fulfil this annual Christmas commitment to their residents.

“We are truly appreciative and grateful to Argus for their interest, support and partnership during this festive season.”

Phil Davis, Argus’ Head of Marketing and Digital Engagement, said, “The holiday season is about togetherness, and this year it is more important than ever to find ways to connect.

“It is without question that many of Bermuda’s charities are overburdened. As 2020 comes to a close, and with it our 70th anniversary celebration, we want to punctuate our message ‘Our Future is You’ by continuing to invest in the interests of the next generation. We are honoured to be able to do our part in creating a joyful experience for the families of Teen Haven.”

Zena Francis, Teen Haven Senior Caseworker, said, “We are thankful that they chose Teen Haven, as we could not have accomplished our goal at this level, without their contribution.

“The Board, staff and residents are humbled that the Argus chose to join forces with Teen Haven and invest in Bermuda’s most vulnerable population – single mothers and their children.”

Ms. Wade added, “The organisation is truly thankful for all the cash donations and goods in kind from all sponsors and individuals in the community, which allowed the agency to survive these dubious times.”
