Fire Service Provides Holiday Fire Safety Tips
As the public prepares to celebrate the holiday season, the Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service [BFRS] is providing general fire safety tips.
A Government spokesperson said, “As the public settles in to the holiday season, the Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service [BF&RS] would like to take this opportunity to remind the community of the following timely safety tips:
- “Water live Christmas trees on a regular basis.
- “When Christmas trees becomes dry, discard it immediately.
- “Place Christmas trees away from sources of heat.
- “Keep lit candles away from decorations and other materials that can burn and blow them out before leaving the room, home or going to bed.
- “Connect no more than three strands of mini light sets and turn off all string lights before leaving your home or going to bed.
- “Stay in the kitchen while cooking on the stovetop.
- “Do not burn Christmas tree branches or wrapping paper in fireplaces.
- “Do not overload electrical outlets, utilize surge protectors.
- “Please test your smoke alarms.
