City Donates $10K To Feeding Programme
Earlier today [Dec 9] the City of Hamilton made a $10,000 donation to the Anglican Cathedral’s Feeding Programme.
Bishop Nicholas Dill was on hand at City Hall to receive the donation from Mayor Charles Gosling, whilst programme volunteers looked on.
Mayor Gosling said, “This has been a very tough year for so many in Bermuda. Here at the City we usually have an annual holiday reception for invited dignitaries and City rate-payers and residents but this year, we decided, as a Board, to forgo that celebration in light of the current climate that the pandemic has inflicted upon us all. It was a very easy, unanimous decision to use allocated funds set aside for that event and donate them to a charitable cause.
“The Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity is what makes Hamilton a City. We have had a strong and trusted relationship with its clergy and to be able to contribute to their feeding programme just made sense. It was the right thing to do and is money very well spent.
“In this time of giving and with so many in need, I encourage others, especially our corporate community, to do likewise, to be generous, empathetic and supportive to our fellow human beings. Everyone deserves to have a wonderful Christmas.”
Bishop Nicholas Dill added, “This is extremely kind. Our feeding programme cannot continue without this kind of generosity. When our funding was running out it was our amazing volunteers that said we couldn’t stop. We’ve had tremendous support from The Loren, Butterfield & Vallis, The Market place and many others and we’re so touched and grateful that organizations are giving up parties and allocating those funds to our programme. We couldn’t do what we do without this generosity.”
“The Cathedral’s feeding programme serves lunch between 12:00pm and 1:00pm to upwards of 150 people on average every day, with those numbers expected to rise with the continued pandemic and leading into the holiday season.”
