18-Year-Old Arrested After Two Collisions
An 18-year-old man was arrested on “suspicion of driving whilst impaired as well for possession of a controlled drug with intent to supply, after being involved in two separate road traffic collisions” on Tuesday.
A police spokesperson said, “The first incident took place on Mullet Bay Road just west of Wellington Lane in St. George. A driver travelling west on Mullet Bay Road stopped to allow an oversized vehicle headed in the opposite direction to get by.
“A white Yamaha motorcycle ridden by the eighteen-year-old male slammed into the back of the first vehicle. The rider was injured in the collision which also resulted in damage to both vehicles, but he subsequently rode off.
“A short time later a vehicle stopped at a red traffic light on Harrington Sound Road was struck from behind by a motorcycle fitting the description of the one involved in the incident in St. Georges. The rider also fit the description of the person riding that motorcycle. He again rode away.
“The bike was later stopped on Kindley Field Road, just west of the Swing Bridge. An officer spoke with the rider whose eyes were glazed and speech slurred. He was arrested on suspicion of driving whilst impaired and failed a subsequent Breathalyser test.
“Following an eventual search, the rider was found to be in possession of several individual bags of plant like material several strips of white wax paper with dabs of a resin like substance and a black digital scale. He was arrested for possession of a controlled drug with intent to supply and possession of drug equipment.
“The bike he was riding was also seized after checks revealed it had previously been reported stolen
“He was then conveyed to King Edward Memorial Hospital where his injuries were attended to.
“A court appearance is anticipated in due course.
“Anyone with information on these two collisions is asked to call 211 or the Roads Policing Unit on 247-1788.”
