Photos & Video: BHB Start Covid-19 Vaccinations
The Bermuda Hospitals Board [BHB] started offering Covid-19 vaccinations to its staff and long term patients today [Jan 11] and said that “by the end of the clinic’s first day well over 100 hospital workers will have been vaccinated.”
A spokesperson said, “Bermuda Hospitals Board started offering COVID-19 vaccinations to its staff and long term patients today. Based on the latest returns of the BHB COVID-19 Vaccine Intent forms, which asked individuals to identify whether or not they would want the vaccine this time, about 650 hospital workers were keen to get vaccinated at BHB’s week long COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic. Over 150 long term care residents across MWI and KEMH will be vaccinated in their residential units and group homes.
“Appointments for Monday and Tuesday are already booked out at the BHB clinic, and intent forms are still being returned. By the end of the clinic’s first day well over 100 hospital workers will have been vaccinated. The clinic had opened at 11am, and will continue into the evening. It will run from 8am to 8pm each day up until Friday.”
Judy Richardson , Chief of Nursing, and COVID-19 Vaccination lead at BHB comments: “This is an historic day for Bermuda and I am both happy and relieved that BHB staff now have the opportunity to get vaccinated against COVID-19. We all want to see the end to this pandemic, and its impact on our families, our travel and the economy of Bermuda.
“The timing is critical. Two weeks on from Christmas, our hospitalisation numbers are increasing and the numbers of deaths have risen to twelve. We now have access to the best protection possible against COVID-19 available, however, a vaccine that is proven to be safe and prevents 95% of COVID-19. It has not been an easy start to 2021, but with this vaccination we can look forward with real hope.”
