BFRS To Conduct Emergency Driving Training

February 10, 2021

The public has been advised that there may be an increase of fire trucks on the road displaying emergency lights and sirens, as the Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service will be conducting emergency driving exercises.

A Government spokesperson said, “The public is advised that starting on Monday, February 15, fire officers from the Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service [BF&RS] will commence a series of simulated emergency driving exercises. This slate of emergency training will continue through March 19, 2021.

“The BF&RS wishes to allay public concerns as there will be an increase of heavy fire appliances on the road. In some instances they will be displaying emergency lights and sirens during the training exercises.

“The BF&RS advised that four fire officers in two separate fire vehicles will be participating in the training. Each vehicle will have two students and one instructor. Through rotation, each officer is allowed to drive under simulated emergency conditions while under the special supervision of the driving instructor.

“The public is encouraged to exercise patience and caution while these emergency driving exercises take place.”
