[Updated] The Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service have extinguished yet another fire, this one located on St Augustine Lane early this morning.

A BFRS spokesperson said, “On Wednesday March 31, 2021 at 4:10am the Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service dispatch center received a report of a confirmed structural fire on St Augustine Lane.

“One appliances from Hamilton Station and one appliance from Port Royal responded with a total of 8 firefighters. On arrival at 4:18am, fire crews reported seeing a two story structure with flames bellowing through the roof and windows.

“The Officer in charge of the scene directed two firefighters donned in SCBA [self contained breathing apparatus] to start fighting the fire through the open windows while an additional water source was located. He then instructed Dispatch to have an appliance from the Clearwater Station [CWS] respond with four more firefighters. The crews from CWS responded to Hamilton station and collected a water tender.

“At 5:25am the fire was extinguished. Firefighters started overhaul operations. The cause of the fire is still undetermined and is under investigation by fire investigators from the BFRS.”

Update 10.52am: A police spokesperson said, “Shortly before 4:15 this morning, Wednesday 31st March, 2021, Police were dispatched to a report of a fire at a derelict two story building on St. Augustine Lane, Pembroke.

“Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.

“However, following an initial assessment, with no electricity supply to the premises, the cause is being considered suspicious.

“There is nothing to indicate this is linked to the recent spate of fires in the Pembroke area, but that possibility has not been ruled out.

“There have so far been no reported injuries as a result of this incident.

Very suspicious. Cover of dark, no electric to building. Area with to many fires lately.
Question: about the fire service, (Honors to them first of all) when a serious call comes in for Hamilton station, and Port Royal and Clear Water come in to assist, does this not leave the Islands ends without fire and rescue protection for quite a while? One truck is usually present at Port Royal to cover calls in the west. Hamilton has a whole bunch of vehicles. Why did they need so much help? Makes me wonder if the fire service is under-staffed or under-budgeted. Not good when seconds count and you have to wait for help and the only truck could be tied up somewhere else. Just throwing that out there.
