BHA Donates $25,000 To Vaccine Clinic

April 26, 2021

The Bermuda Hotel Association [BHA] is donating $25,000 to support the vaccine clinic at the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

A spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Hotel Association [BHA] have today announced a donation of $25,000.00 to support the operation of the vaccine clinic at the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

“This donation comes after the Bermuda Hospitals Charitable Foundation made a public appeal for donations to help assist in covering a number of critical expenditures, including paying the nurses, pharmacists and administrative staff who run and support the clinic as well as for vital supplies. Ensuring that the vaccine clinic remains fully funded will help the clinic to maintain its excellent record of immunising Bermuda residents and help to prepare the island for post-pandemic life and the return of tourism, as well as a much- anticipated return to overall economic prosperity.

“As of 17th April nearly 51,000 vaccine doses have been administered to residents, with 34 per cent of the residents having received both doses. This efficient vaccination roll out has seen Bermuda listed as 7th in the world for its vaccination rate, according to CNN [as of time of publication]. However, in order to reach the goal of the Government in achieving Herd Immunity, we need to continue to encourage everyone who is eligible to get vaccinated.

“The Government estimates Herd Immunity will be reached when 70 per cent of those who are eligible to receive the vaccine, has received both doses.”

Tim Morrison, President of the Bermuda Hotel Association and General Manager at Hamilton Princess & Beach Club, said: “We are pleased, through the approval of our Board, to be able to support the Bermuda Hospitals Charitable Foundation in their incredibly important mission of immunising Bermudians and all eligible residents against Covid-19. Herd Immunity is critical not only for the general resumption of ‘normal life’ but also key to the success, survival and future growth of the Islands hotel and tourism industry”.

Stephen Todd, Chief Executive Officer of the Bermuda Hotel Association, said: “The past year has been very challenging for tourism, hospitality as well as all industry sectors, however we applaud the fantastically efficient roll out of the vaccine by the Bermuda Government which has given us all reason for hope and positive optimism.

“The sooner that we achieve Herd Immunity, the sooner that the island’s hospitality workers can get back to business as usual. We continue to encourage all those eligible residents and especially our hotel industry colleagues, who haven’t as yet received the vaccine, to get vaccinated as soon as possible”
