Police Confirm Two Deaths Following Collisions
The police have confirmed the death of 56-year-old Marvin Lambe as well as 81-year-old Leon Eugene Thomas following two separate collisions yesterday.
Mr. Lambe died following a collision in Hamilton parish, while Mr Thomas — whose family explained that he went by his middle name Eugene — died after being struck by a motorcycle while walking in Southampton, with the motorcyclist later arrested in connection with the fatal collision.
Third Road Fatality for 2021: 56-Year-Old Marvin Lambe
A police spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 56-year-old Marvin Lambe and extends sincere condolences to his family and friends.
“Mr. Lambe – believed to be a Smith’s parish resident – was seriously injured when the motorcycle he was riding east on North Shore Road collided with the back of a car [also being driven east on North Shore Road], that had stopped to allow a man and woman to cross the pedestrian crossing near The Bermuda Aquarium, Museum and Zoo in Hamilton parish around 5:30pm Tuesday, 4th May.
“Despite lifesaving efforts at the crash site and being rushed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance, sadly Mr. Lambe was later pronounced dead.
“The two pedestrians struck by the motorcycle, said to be a 53-year-old Devonshire man and a 27-year-old Hamilton parish woman, were treated at the hospital for non-life threatening injuries and later discharged.
“The driver of the car, said to be a 38-year-old Hamilton parish woman, was not hurt.
“An investigation regarding the circumstances of the third road fatality of the year continues.
“Any witnesses that have not already come forward are now asked to call the Roads Policing Unit on 247-1788 as soon as possible.
Fourth Road Fatality for 2021: 81-Year-Old Leon Thomas
“The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 81-year-old Leon Thomas and extends sincere condolences to his family and friends.
“Mr. Thomas – believed to be a Southampton resident – was seriously injured when he attempted to walk across South Road in Southampton near the junction with Lighthouse Road and was struck by a motorcycle being ridden west along South Road around 5:47pm Tuesday, 4th May.
“Despite lifesaving efforts at the crash site and being rushed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance, sadly Mr. Thomas was later pronounced dead.
“The motorcyclist involved, said to be a 19-year-old Paget man, apparently sustained injuries to his leg and back and was admitted to the hospital for treatment. He was also arrested and later bailed in connection with this fatal collision.
“An investigation regarding the circumstances of the fourth road fatality of the year continues.
“Any witnesses that have not already come forward are now asked to call the Roads Policing Unit on 247-1788 as soon as possible.”
