OBA: Why Has Govt Delayed Quarantine Plan?

June 6, 2021

“If the Government views this restriction important from a health perspective what could be so vital that it’s been pushed back by a week,” the One Bermuda Alliance asked, adding that “changing the date only raises questions regarding this Government-imposed requirement.”

An OBA spokesperson said, “Why is the Government remaining tight-lipped over their reason for delaying the implementation of a mandatory quarantine in a hotel at the travellers’ expense?

“The announcement was made weeks ago that the new rules for non-vaccinated returning residents and visitors to the island would take effect today [June 6]. Why give ample advance warning and remain adamant about the policy only to delay it by a week?

“This is not a good look and yet again, it gives the perception that the Government is not clear in what direction it wants to take the people of Bermuda.

“It is clear that many residents are not happy about the impending requirement of quarantine in a government appointed facility and having to pay the costs.

“Changing the date only raises questions regarding this Government-imposed requirement. If the Government views this restriction important from a health perspective what could be so vital that it’s been pushed back by a week?

“Surely there is a reason or reasons for this decision and the people of Bermuda deserve to know what is going on. Transparency must not be selective.”

Yesterday the Government announced that “all non-immunised persons travelling to Bermuda are subject to mandatory supervised quarantine which will come into effect on 13 June,” with the Government adding that there are six approved quarantine hotels and the traveller must cover the costs for the hotel stay.

In response to Bernews query as to why the date changed from June 6th to June 13th, a Government spokesperson said, “The Travel Authorisation process begins at least three days before a person travels to the island, including getting pre-arrival test results. Therefore the start date of 13 June gives persons, travelling to Bermuda, advanced notice and sufficient time to submit their information.”

    someone is coming

  2. Otrwele says:

They are hypocrites!! I can only guess that they changed it to allow someone or some group (like our national football team) to enter without restrictions. This sets a double standard that they didn’t want to have to explain! Straight up hypocrisy and BS!

  3. Sister Nancy says:

Looks to be they are waiting for The Premier and colleagues to get back from Miami. As well as the football team to come home.

  4. Ringmaster says:

The Government response to say it is to give more time is BS. June 6 was announced 5 weeks ago. Someone needs to call them out and get the real reason.

  5. Island says:

Football team coming in I believe

  6. comfortably numb says:

Maybe they realized that the football team was off island and Burt and his entourage were in Florida?

  7. Burt's Beard says:

By my manly whiskers! I wonder why no one has connected my trip to Florida and the unvaccinated people who flew back to Bermuda? It is as if no one can ask an intelligent question. 30-6! Wakanda forever!

  8. Traveler says:

Based on recent media articles I believe the football team is returning sometime soon. Perhaps the govt didn’t want to pay for the 20+ traveling squad to quarantine! Would cost them >$100K.

  9. Question says:

A particularly important question, given that the government has let it slip that the Indian variant is now here.

  10. Joe Bloggs says:

“An OBA spokesperson said, “Why is the Government remaining tight-lipped over their reason for delaying the implementation of a mandatory quarantine in a hotel at the travellers’ expense?”

Perhaps because the PLP Government is in litigation on this very subject and it does not want to prejudice the case?

  11. SWING VOTER says:

OBA would you quarantine me like the PLP or open up Bermuda with no restrictions similar to the USA? Do you support what the PLP is doing to it’s non vaccinated residents returning please tell!

  12. Jus' Wonderin' says:

Just look up the flight logs and you will see which, it rhymes with sinister, was on the flight that came back and not vaccinated….plp playing everyone for fools!

  13. Red Pill says:

The government is being tight lipped on many things and being dishonest to the public.
