Natural Blessings Anniversary Bursary Award
Nicole Famous – founder of Natural Blessings Always [NBA] Annual Hair and Beauty Expo — marks what would have been the tenth anniversary of her annual event, with a Bursary presentation to Bermuda College student, Selah Ray.
The Bursary will cover the cost of the first-year business student’s college booklist.
Ms. Famous said, “Our tenth show marks a big milestone for us and we wanted to make a splash but Covid made us pause. So we wanted to do something community-focused.
“Selah’s story is an inspiring one. She has shown resilience and has been unstoppable in pursuit of her dreams, goals, and personal improvement. As we celebrate over a decade of growth, it feels natural to celebrate our own growth by supporting this young woman in our community. Like us, Selah has big dreams for the future. We wish Selah all the best in her studies and welcome her to the Natural Blessings family.”

“The Natural Blessings Always brand was conceived in 2009 to coincide with the founder’s birthday and that of Emperor Haille Selassie. There have been nine natural hair expos in Bermuda promoting the beauty and benefits of natural living and embracing natural afro hairstyles and self-love in the Black community,” a spokesperson said.

“The annual programme has featured scores of well-known figures in natural haircare who have provided demonstrations, educational lectures on transitioning, protecting, and beautifying natural hair,” a spokesperson added.
“There have been international celebrity stylists who have shared the stage with Bermuda’s local haircare stars. The brand started with a focus on Black women but has diversified over the years to include segments for men – including medical advice on hair loss, how to choose a barber, and presentations on health and wellness.

“Each year the Natural Blessings Always Giving committee would identify deserving community members and provide gifts, awards, or scholarships.
“In fact, the Giving Committee has donated BELCO vouchers, grocery vouchers, and Phoenix Drug store gift vouchers to seniors in need. Ms. Famous’ organisation also has recognised Bermuda’s pioneers in Black haircare. Over the years the organisation has provided scholarships to students and donations to women in need.
“Scores of patrons have supported the event over the years, and exhibitors have been a part of the movement’s growth. The Natural Blessings movement was conceived in 2009 to celebrate the beauty of natural Black hair and promote self-love, and wellness. Since 2009 the acceptance of natural afro haircare in Bermuda and around the world has bloomed.”
Ms. Famous said, “This is the best birthday gift I could ever have – to see the growth of my dream and to see the contributions of the NBA team, my loyal patrons, and generous sponsors enable me to give back year after year. The pandemic disrupted my plans for the tenth-anniversary event in 2020 but I’m excited to announce that on November 20, 2021, Natural Blessings Always will be partnering with Channel 82 to present a broadcast event that will feature our favourite haircare pros, wellness gurus with the addition of local and international entertainers including reggae superstar Luciano. I invite Bermuda to stay tuned for our first-ever broadcast event and lots more community giving this Fall.”
Ms Famous added, “I feel honoured to have earned the trust of my regular sponsors over the past decade including Northshore Medical and Aesthetics Centre, Gorham’s Ltd, Design Essentials, Argus insurance, Brimstone Ltd., Fort Knox, Central Diagnostics. There are also many more valued contributors and my team sends our greatest thanks to them all.”
