Trash Collection Delays Due To Industrial Action

July 23, 2021

There are “delays in trash collection due to industrial action” and this is affecting areas in the East End, the Government has advised.

A Government spokesperson said, “The Ministry of Public Works is advising the public of delays in trash collection due to industrial action by Collections Staff.

“The matter, which is being addressed by the Bermuda Industrial Union and the Ministry’s management team, will affect areas in the East End. They include the Aquarium east to St. George’s and the Devil’s Hole Hill area east to St. David’s.

“The Ministry notes that collection is expected to resume Monday morning [July 26]. The Ministry apologises to the public for the inconvenience caused and encouraged the use of the Tynes Bay Public Drop off, which is open from 7.00 am to 7.00 pm daily.”

  2. Ringmaster says:

  4. I find it hilarious that come Oct 2nd this year, I would have lived in West Palm Beach Florida for 4yrs, and never once has my two day a week trash collection not happened and yes that includes holidays and I will add, never once has it happened on any other day from my scheduled Tuesday and Friday collection day, in fact I can almost set my watch by the time they come each day!

You all are getting exactly what you voted for, Bermuda has had approximately 2 months of shutdowns in the last 15 months, what to heck was the bus and trash truck mechanics who were allowed to work, doing during that time while they were on full pay?? and lets not forget how many bus cancellations happen every day there!

So happy I have rid myself of that Island!

Don’t think anyone misses you either. Enjoy Trump country.
While Bermuda isn’t perfect, it is still better to live here than a lot of places.

Summer time and Unions way of doing things makes whose life easy. Fish ain’t jumping and rats, mice, mosquito numbers are high while cats, dogs tear open the bags and chickens have Oh Bie delightful served up until maybe rebagged by concerned public or union workers give taxpayer their services. Leave trash out much longer and we as tax payers will have to burn where it rests. At least Fire fighters will be employed and streets free of clutter and rotting smell. Get it on Chris Furbert cuz yuh foiling de spirit of Cup Match!!!!

  6. Southampton says:

The union acts like a group school children. When they can’t have their way they sit down and pout.
    Get rid of the union.

  7. Honestly says:

This isn’t cool! Considering some of my fellow neighbors put out trash late last week…and it’s still there. The pile is growing and smelling from the rain and sun. I can’t open my window from the stench! I will be taking trash from my house to the incinerator!

  8. hulktoo says:

the said part is we refuse to do for ourselves/ collectivly / community like / we rather sit back instead of doing / becoming dependent / instead of finding a soloution / ready to point a finger / always someone else fault /

Feel sorry for the Workers, this is under the watch and low morale under management. PARTS and accounting is almost always the problem with Gov’t Departments. Then there is the underlining problem of workers trying to progress being shunted off from management because the workers are a threat with common sense and skill getting to close to the level of superiors. Government departments are rife with problems because bosses are not held to account just like MPs are not checked and the general population wonders why the problems and debacles facing this country continue to multiply. It takes inside workers to expose the real problems in Gov’t, not fully those outside Gov’t looking in. People do not down tools for fun. It is serious problems that have been building that go unanswered by superiors! I don’t work with Sanitation or
PTB but I Know what time of day it is. Been this way for years but continues to decline.

  10. Joe Bloggs says:

After everything Jason Hayward and the PLP Cabinet has given the Unions this year we are still seeing this rubbish?

  11. puzzled says:

And it all will continue like this whilst the PLP are in charge.
This crap has been going on since I was a child and the Yoonyon came to power.
They get full salary whether working or not.
Show me a video of them marching around the truck repair center.

    No Nonsense said it best.
Glad I moved too. If this crap happened here in the US they would be replaced or contracted out in one day.
