Vessel Diverts Due To Sick Crew Member

A vessel — traveling from Texas to the UK –  diverted to Bermuda to disembark a crewmember that had suffered a suspected blood clot.

A Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre spokesperson said, “Wednesday 7th July, 7:57pm. Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre was contacted by local shipping agent Meyers, advising the fully laden 64,321grt Motor Tanker ‘Flavin’ was inbound to Bermuda to disembark a crewmember that had suffered a suspected blood clot and was in need of further medical assessment and assistance.

“The Maltese registered vessel, on route from Corpus Christi, Texas, USA, to the UK Port of Fawley. Diverted from its position 240 nm west of Bermuda to disembark the patient Thursday afternoon. At 1600 local time, Thursday 8th July, the patient was safely taken ashore via the pilot boat St. George and transferred to an ambulance to be transported to KEMH VII memorial hospital.”
