Lifeguard Service Temporarily Suspended

September 8, 2021

Lifeguard Service has temporarily ceased operations due to the high surf conditions, the Government has advised.

This comes as the BWS has advised that Hurricane Larry is a “threat to Bermuda,” with a Tropical Storm Warning is now in effect. The latest BWS forecast states, “After a mainly fine and dry day, expect deteriorating conditions tonight into Thursday with strengthening wind and showers. Hazardous long period swells develop with dangerous surf and rip currents.”

A Government spokesperson said, “The Department of Parks is advising that due to the high surf conditions, effective immediately and until further notice, the Lifeguard Service has temporarily ceased operations.

“High surf signs have been erected, and in the interest of safety, members of the public are urged to refrain from entering the ocean until the signs are removed.

“The public will be advised when Lifeguard Services will resume. The Department thanks the public for their cooperation and apologises for any inconvenience caused.”
