Lindo’s Adds Self-Serve Checkout Machines

Lindo’s is one of the first stores in Bermuda to have self-checkout kiosks.

Cricketer Clay Smith always knows how to take a quick single when the opportunity is right. It comes as no surprise he is using the self-serve checkout at Lindo’s.

Smith picked up a selection from the lunch buffet on Tuesday before scanning his couple of items and was out the door in no time.

Smith told Bernews, “This is good. I was sitting there looking at a line and figured I could come here and do it a little quicker. I’ve experienced it overseas in England, so I am used to it – get in and get out.”

Last week, Lindo’s opened up two more self-checkout machines to give it four. The first two were installed just before Cup Match, and it became the first grocery store in Bermuda to have self-service checkout.

Andre Zanol, store manager for Lindo’s Family Foods in Devonshire, told Bernews the machines have proven to be a hit. It’s ideal for customers who only have a few items as they won’t have to wait in line behind other people who have full shopping carts.

“We can help process them quickly and move the lines, especially during Covid times. Nobody wants to wait too long.”

He said it was beneficial right before Cup Match when there were people who only had a few items and could zip out.

Mr Zanol added no jobs were lost in the move making it a win-win.

There is a Lindo’s employee stationed at the machines to assist people in using the self-checkout.
