OBA Leader: ‘How Can Premier Remain Quiet’

September 15, 2021 | 6 Comments

[Updated] “It would appear that in the midst of an unprecedented time in Bermuda’s management of the pandemic, the Premier is consistently missing in action,” Opposition Leader Cole Simons said this evening [Sept 15].

Mr Simons said, “The people of Bermuda want, need, and deserve strong leadership. How can the Premier remain quiet when the numbers of positive cases of Covid continue to rise to unprecedented levels?

“We need consistent communication from the leader of this country. The Pandemic related media conferences used to be weekly when the numbers were much, much lower. How can the Premier justify having emergency powers, and then go missing when the country is clearly in an emergency?

“The questions arising from many on traditional and social media platforms are many, like ‘Where is the Premier and why is he dodging the difficult questions?’ It is obvious that some people feel abandoned and need some form of comfort from the leader. What are his plans for mitigating Covid-19, given the spike and extent of infections?

“It’s not good enough that the Premier embraces the accolades. As the leader of this country, he must take center stage and face the nation, even when the news is bad. Bermuda needs leadership and moreover, the country needs direction.”

Update September 16, 7.48am: A spokesperson said, “On Friday the Opposition Leader and his 5 MPs had 90 minutes to question the Premier on matters related to the Coronavirus Pandemic. They had Premier’s Question Time plus a ministerial statement from the Premier solely dedicated to the pandemic.

“Leadership is not about jumping on the latest social media bandwagon, leadership during a pandemic is about heeding public health advice, building consensus with stakeholders and implementing rules and regulations which will keep people safe.

“The Government urges the Opposition to support its call for Bermuda’s residents to follow the regulations in place that will aid in combatting the spread of the Delta Variant so that the country can tackle this surge with the sense of unity required.”

You the OBA the opposition are just as quiet. Your are just as bad as the sitting government and are just as accountable for all these ridiculous mandates put out by the government. By my manly whiskers! 30-6 Simons. 30-6.

  5. Good Day Mr. Cole Simons, The Premier of Bermuda can not speak to the present covid19 situation because neither he or the Minister of health are qualified in the area of scientific medical research and this is why you even see the Minister of health taking more of a back seat role.

You have Dr. Wesley Miller and Dr. Ayo speaking more to the pandemic and pushing for the vaccine agenda, which is still deceitful because they are not speaking directly to the real truth, just like they claim the recent outbreak in numbers of positive cases are from the unvaccinated, so please tell me why we have more than 350 fully vaccinated persons in Bermuda who are presently positives, and please tell me how they are not able to she, spread or transmit.

There’s enough science out here to prove that the vaccines do not stand up against the latest variants and therefore even the fully vaccinated is now being greatly affected, because they have put their trust in vaccines that doesn’t work against these variants but the powers that be would constantly keep denying these facts.

Damned if you do, damned if you don’t. The people of Bermuda are going to do what they are going to do. You either listen to the science and take continued precautions, or you don’t. You made your bed, now you must lie in it. Because there are few, if any, ICU beds left for you.
