RUBiS Flaring Operations In Ferry Reach
RUBiS will be conducting flaring operations at their St. George’s Depot in Ferry Reach and people in the area ”may see an orange flame rising to about 20-ft into the sky, and a rumble may be heard from nearby homes.”
A spokesperson said, “Please be advised that due to approaching Hurricane Sam, RUBiS shall recommence flaring operations at its St. George’s Depot, Ferry Reach, effective immediately.
“These operations shall continue daily until the approaching weather conditions dictate that it is no longer safe to proceed. We anticipate that the flaring operations will conclude on Tuesday, 5th October.
“These flaring operations are a requirement to allow RUBiS to perform an internal inspection of the underground Liquified Petroleum Gas storage tanks, as required every 10-years. The purpose of this flaring is to ensure that all propane vapours are removed to permit the inspection team to safely conduct their works.
“Persons in the vicinity may see an orange flame rising to about 20-ft into the sky, and a rumble may be heard from nearby homes, or from Ferry Road near the facility.
“RUBiS wish to allay any public concerns and advises that whilst this flame may give the appearance of being close to other petroleum equipment, the flare is situated near to the northern shoreline of Ferry Reach.
“RUBiS also wish to assure the public that this flaring operations is conducted as per the standard operating procedures for flaring operations, and in compliance with international safety standards.
“The propane that is burnt off is the same propane one would use to cook inside their home, heat their fireplace, or barbeque with family & friends. Propane is a clean-burning fuel, and is a low emission fuel, when compared to other fossil fuels, or electricity-based devices that receive their power from fossil-fuel generators.
“RUBiS has notified the appropriate emergency response services & governmental agencies.”
