Speaking at this evening’s press conference, Health Minister Kim Wilson provided “recent statistics on the footfall impact of Covid positive and Presumptive Covid positive Patients on the Emergency Room at the hospital.

She said, “The foot traffic between July 15 – 31, shows:

  • 3 Covid-19 cases arrived at the hospital, out of
  • 1280 emergency room visits
  • And the percentage of Covid cases over total ER visits was 0%.

The foot traffic between August 1 – 31 shows:

  • 34 Covid-19 cases arrived at the hospital out of
  • 2394 emergency room visits
  • And the percentage of Covid cases over total ER visits was 1.4%.

The foot traffic between September 1 – 20 shows:

  • 212 Covid-19 cases arrived at the hospital out of
  • 1341 emergency room visits
  • And the percentage of Covid cases over total ER visits was 15.8%.

“I provide this information so that the community can better understand the impact on the hospital of this fourth wave. The hospital is managing more than 200 Covid-related ER visits while also providing care to 58 inpatients, 14 of whom are in the ICU,” the Minister added.

Update: The text the Government initially sent out said August 1 – 3, listening to the video the Minister did say “first to third”, however the Government had a small error with the date, Bernews checked with the Government and they confirmed it should have been August 1st to 31st, so we adjusted the text above.

  1. Nicky says:

From these statistics 87% in hospital have not been fully vaccinated and 13% have been fully vaccinated.

From these statistics 87% of patents who have died have not been fully vaccinated and 13% have been fully vaccinated.

Wake up those who have yet to be vaccinated and get vaccinated today if not for your sake than for the sake of your family, the hospital and Bermuda.

    • BobtheBuilder says:

Not fully vaccinated. Does that mean they could’ve taken one shot and needed boosters or secondary shots etc. not fully vaccinated leaves a lot to question.
      So what is fully vaccinated?

      • Question says:

Even when presented with clear data, you would rather ask stupid inane questions than to face up to the truth.

      • paulP says:

NO, Fully vaxed means 2 shots and 2 weeks out, no other explanation needed.

      • Jack says:

What rock have you been living under Bob. Fully vaccinated means that you have had 2 shots of an approved vaccine and that at least 2 weeks have passed since your second shot. I think the whole planet minus you are aware of the meaning of fully vaccinated at this stage Bob. Don’t hurt your little brain too much by thinking about it Bob, just get off your butt and get yourself vaccinated. You wont grow a second head and you wont have a Bill gates sponsored microchip tracker in your arm after the shots Bob, I promise. But you will be protected from Covid-19 which could save your life. And its free Bob, so what are you waiting for.

        • LOL (original) says:

Until 4 months pass then you will have to get a booster shot and possible every 4-6 months after that see covid passport requirements in Israel.

      • Toodle-oo says:

Maybe you weren’t around when it was explained the previous 100x’s of times .

‘Fully vaccinated’ = 2 jabs plus two weeks elapsed since 2nd shot

‘Partially vaccinated’ = 1 jab only or both jabs but less than 2 weeks elapsed.

One would imagine that ‘Unvaccinated’ means no shots at all .

      • LOL - the real one says:

EXACTLY! You beat me to it.

      • enough says:

Fully vaccinated means having had two shots.

  2. Loquat tree says:

There’s an error on the August foot traffic statement by the Minister, 3rd should likely be 31st

  3. Interesting says:

I thought the Premier said this evening that the cases were not linked to Cup Match or events of that time (correct me if I heard him wrong) but take note we had 34 cases show up at the hospital the few days after cup match and the ease of restrictions. Let’s face it, the ease of restrictions so some would stop complaining and be allowed to party harder at cupmatch events, Eastern county events and on raft ups was the downfall. But government will never admit this. Safekey, umm some were whatsapping pictures of safekeys to friends so they could get into events because most places didn’t really look to make sure the name on the safekey matched the ID!!

    • Loquat tree says:

The Premier actually specified SafeKey events, not all events in that time period.

  4. Question says:

There is something wrong with the ER foot traffic information. The numbers for August 1-3, or the date range she read out, was wrong. My guess is that those figures actually represent the whole of August, rather than 3 days, but who knows.

    • enough says:

The foot traffic between August 1 – 31 shows:

34 Covid-19 cases arrived at the hospital out of
      2394 emergency room visits
And the percentage of Covid cases over total ER visits was 1.4%.

copied this from above and that certainly looks like August 1 – 31st

      • Loquat tree says:

It has obviously been corrected since originally spotted and posted. !

      • Question says:

It now reads August 1-31. It originally said August 1-3. Wilson, when reading it out, said August 1-3. So it originally made no sense.

  5. Ringmaster says:

Missing from the data on deaths are whether the people died from Covid, or rather what the Minister like to say, Covid related. That’s a big difference as the person may have been on end of life or suffering a major illness, yet tested positive. Unlikely they died from Covid.

    • Sandgrownan says:

      How do you seduce that?

Keep flogging that (dead) horse. The reality is this – the unvaccinated are the problem.

  6. King says:

Where are the stats of people who haven’t been vaccinated at all? I think it’s quite interesting that they have showed stats for vaccinated and not fully vaccinated only??

I think this has been done intentionally as the data most likely reflects that most of the people in hospitals are those who are partially or fully vaccinated.

Before the vaccination Bermuda was not in this state, now that 67% of the population is vaccinated it’s a mess!

Yes I agree people need to wake up an see what’s really going on here…the vaccine is not the answer!

    • Sandgrownan says:

What an unbelievably stupid conclusion to draw. The vaccine is the problem??

How about this – let’s stop admitting unvaccinated people to hospital – just direct them straight to the morgue.

      • LOL (original) says:

Good afternoon, how is the Bernews supreme extremists snowflake

    • Dusty says:

Interesting line of thinking! Hopeless incorrect, but… interesting

      • LOL (original) says:

Explain Oscar De La Hoya vs Joe Rogan then. The guy who ended up in the hospital was Oscar not the drinking, smocking, no longer in shape fight that by his own words best shape in his life. So what happened here? Oh and after looking at the data again Can’t where I got it wrong my source ourworldindata.org. where are the sources for the your opinions on the matter.

    • You cant read says:

30 deaths, of which 26 [86.7%] were not fully vaccinated, while 4 [13.3%] were fully vaccinated. Learn to read it can save a life!

  7. D says:

Wouldn’t the stats be skewed with respect to fully-vaccinated statistics if you start counting on the day that the first vaccine was administered? Of course all hospitalizations and deaths would be non-vaccinated or not fully-vaccinated.

  8. Nicky says:

I think since there is vaccine hesitancy in the black community can we have data on, of all the deaths how many have been black?

  9. enough says:

Fully vaccinated means having had two shots.

    • LOL (original) says:

…. and 2 weeks from the last dose….then 4-6 months after that shot and so on and so on. Look at the requirements for vax passport Israel.

  10. Common Sense says:

There have now been more deaths in the USA from Covid than from the 1918 -1919 influenza pandemic

  11. Non judgmental says:

Choice of words is everything… Please stop for one second and analyze from every angle and stop ego tripping because you go vaccinated….

Previous stats used to compare vaccinated to unvaccinated…. these stats are comparing vaccinated to not fully vaccinated…

Synonyms for not fully are partially, bit by bit, halfway, slightly etc. etc.

    …. just saying….

  12. Progress says:

It would be nice if we could really discuss this data as a community in a meaningful way. What seems entirely obvious to some, is interpreted completely differently by others. We can jump to attacks of stupidity but it clearly won’t change their mind. How can we actually make progress? It won’t be by making others feel dumb. We can validate concerns without agreeing and we have to understand (as difficult as that seems) the other perspective, if we want to move forward. We all know Bermuda education needs an overhaul, but right now our kids aren’t even going to school- that’s a scary prospect for their futures and bermudas’.. How can we fix that?
