Photos: Princess Unveils Gingerbread Moongate
[Updated with video] Hamilton Princess & Beach Club has unveiled their 2021 gingerbread creation: a larger than life Gingerbread Moongate.
A spokesperson said, “Inspired by the classic symbol of Bermuda which symbolises good luck, this is the second Gingerbread Moongate created by the hotel. It stands at 10ft tall and spans almost the entire width of the lobby, weighing in at more than 300lbs.
“This year’s iteration will be flanked by small gingerbread creations that reflect the hotel and the season, tying it all together in a perfect Christmas bow! Amongst these other decorations will be homages to the hotel’s iconic art collection, candy canes and mistletoe. It is modelled after the moongate on Flagpole Terrace and is even lit up with similar lights – the perfect gateway to the hotel’s festivities.
“Continuing the yearly tradition, the Gingerbread Moongate took a team of chefs and engineers, led by Pastry Chef John Hauser, 90 man-hours to build from scratch. A special, sturdy gingerbread recipe was used for the creation, including 120kg of flour, 50kg of molasses, 30kg of butter and 250 eggs along with the hotel’s secret blend of spices.”
John Hauser, Pastry Chef at Hamilton Princess & Beach Club, said: “Last year’s Gingerbread Moongate was a huge success and the perfect solution for socially distanced photo-ops – so we couldn’t resist recreating it again! This year’s version is even more spectacularly decorated and the lobby already smells fantastic. The Gingerbread Moongate is the cherry on top of this year’s festivities and we hope everyone comes to the Hamilton Princess to see it for themselves.”
A spokesperson added, “Throughout the holiday period, the hotel has a number of special offerings available for the public who want to indulge in that festive feeling, including a number of returning favourites. Highlights include:
“Festive and Teddy Bear Tea: this annual staple is perfect for the whole family in December! Enjoy a classic afternoon tea with a seasonal spin between 3pm and 5pm every day. For the younger crowd, teach them the joy of the time of giving with Teddy Bear Tea where a donation from each meal will be donated to The Family Centre, between 3pm and 5pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
“Snowball Party: the Hamilton Princess & Beach Club’s staple holiday celebration is back! Perfect for groups of friends and office gatherings, the hotel’s two Snowballs take place on December 10th and 11th.
“Chef & Me: those with a junior chef at home can treat them to a cookie decorating class with one of Hamilton Princess’ elite pastry chefs who will teach them how to perfectly frost their own gingerbread houses.
“As always, there are ample dining options for those who are looking for alternatives to a messy and stressful cooking experience at home, from Christmas Turkeys to Go to luxury buffet dinners on the holiday.
