The club’s match report said, “Dale Eve saved three penalties in a tense shootout as Moors progressed to the Third Round of the Trophy against Chorley. Following a goalless draw after 90 minutes, Moors were near perfect from the spot as Eve denied The Magpies on three separate occasions.

“The visitors, who went into the contest 3rd in the National League North, started the brighter of the two sides, with Scott McLean almost heading into his own net after a high looping ball into the area.

“Moors responded with a sustained spell of pressure and possession but found chances hard to come by at a chilly Brewery Field in need of a spark.

“The visitors created the better of the chances in a flat first half, seeing a powerful header from Mike Calveley saved well by Eve.”

“The Magpies continued to threaten but wasted a host of promising opening and positions, seeing efforts fly over the bar from Billy Whitehouse and Jon Ustabasi respectively.

“Rob Ramshaw had Spennymoor’s clearest chance of the first 45 minutes, steering an accurate shot which Matt Urwin clawed away from the top corner.

“The tie was to be settled via a penalty shootout in front of the fans in the Great Annual Savings stand. Taylor, Abbott and McLean all scored for Moors, with Eve expertly denying Harry Cardwell and Whitehouse to put Spennymoor in a dominant position.

“Richardson had the opportunity to send Moors through but was denied by Urwin, but it didn’t matter, as Eve sprung to his right to save Will Tomlinson’s spot kick.”
