Painting Of Victoria Park Bandstand Completed

December 7, 2021

This week painting of the Victoria Park bandstand — which dates back to 1889 — was completed two weeks ahead of schedule.

A spokesperson said, “The painting was carried out by International Painting Contractors, owned by Andrew Smith. Work also included rust proofing the metal structure, sanding the interior wood ceiling paneling and blending various existing paint colors to match the exact color of the structure when it was first painted in 1888. The paintjob was the bandstand’s first major facelift since extensive restoration works were carried out in 2007.

“The bandstand was erected in 1889 in commemoration of Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee and is the only remaining example of this type of bandstand left in the world. In 2007, it was dismantled and sent back to Scotland for a full restoration, with the support of Butterfield Bank, and reinstalled in 2009 complete with a time capsule embedded in one of its columns, to be opened in 2109.”

A beautiful job carried out on an exquisite structure. Victoria Park is indeed a wonderful oasis set apart from city hubbub. Say goodbye to all of this if the PLP are successful in grabbing the Corporation of Hamilton. They have already set an example elsewhere on the rock. So so sad!
