Review: Second Drive-Through Musical Festival

The second drive-through musical festival was held Thursday, December 16th in The Heartbeat of Hamilton by Atlantic Publishing House, outside of the historic Hubie’s Nightclub, which met an untimely death in 2010. Featured veteran saxophonists Miles “Trane” Manders and Keith Lee played a wide selection of Christmas songs to a Covid regulations seated audience.
The special guest was June Caisey, The Empress of Song, who performed in all of Bermuda’s hotels and abroad. Those in attendance were treated to a variety of traditional Christmas carols and many had a definite jazz bent that the late Hubie Brown would have been proud to see performed. The event was only meant to last an hour but suddenly tuned into a jazz concert with an additional hour which delighted the audience.
The two performers were later joined by yours truly on alto sax. Based on the positive comments made by those driving through, and the appreciative audience, it looks like similar performances will take place next year.
Mr. Manders, who has established himself as the resident artist at Roslaie Gardens, having started:
- The Music Wall of Fame
- The Staircase to Heaven
Mr. Manders is currently completing “The 10 Wonders of the Heartbeat of Hamilton” and a giant 16-foot surprise drawing to recognise Lord Necktie – all of which will be unveiled in March 2022 when The Clarence Hill Sports Arena is officially opened.
With restaurant reviews being presented about the area, and a BEDC and residents committee leading the revival of the Court Street area, 2022 promises to lay an even stronger foundation for the the area and salutations are in order to all of those who are working hard to make it a first-class area to tour and shop.
